The
best place to change money in Kuta is at the end of Legian Street by
bemo corner next to Quicksilver. It is called the Dirgahayu Group Co.
There is not the bait and switch rate and the bs with the short
changing you get at some of the changers in the alleys. I have always
found them to offer the best legitimate rate.
A better rate
is offered by touts in some back alleys but when you get your money
somehow half of it is gone and it will happen even if you are watching
closely.
Even
at banks (which usually do not do currency exchange) it is always a good practice to count your money before leaving the window and be the last
one to count it.
I have never had a problem at a bank but you have to
realize the wage disparity between the west and Indonesia.
Some of us
change an Indonesians yearly wage at one go so it presents a big temptation.
It is good to use some common sense and not leave yoursef to open. Try
to use ATM cards and obviously don't give your pin number to anyone
though people do it all the time. (But he was so loving and kind - blah blah blah) Try to stay away from card games because even if you
play on the world poker tour you will not win. It is magic.
It is also a good idea not to leave valuables in your hotel room. You are
just asking for problems. But most of all try to have a good time and
not worry to much because with a little bit of thinking you will have
no problems at all.
