Kuta - Imna Satu Cottages
Lima
Satu Cottages are in the alley by TJ's Mexican Restaurant in Poppies
Lane 1. It is a nice quiet place with a pool off the main Lane so you
don't get the noise from the traffic. The rates are around 120,000 rupiah a night.
You can get special deals almost everywhere if you plan to stay
more than one night so it always is a good idea to ask.
Generally booking on the internet is the most expensive way to go and
is not really necessary. You could always book for one
night and then have a look around at other places when you get there.
Travelers have different needs because of their time constraints. If
you have a lot of time and are on a backpackers budget you can find
some really good deals. If you only have one week to spare money is
probably not as big an issue.
You can watch the ceremonies at the temple across the alley from the balcony of the Lima Satu.
It is a short walk over to Poppies Lane 1,2 and Legian Street.
There is a good internet cafe down the street across Legian
St. by the orange internet sign. It has a fast connection at one of
the cheapest prices in town (150 rupiaha minute).
Right next to it is a little take away that has an excellent nasi goring for 5,000 rupiah.
There
are 2 more guest houses just up the alley and a laundry service, massage
and beauty shop, convenient store on the corner.
There are a bunch of cheap restaurants on Poppies 1. Travel
services there that can get you Merpati Air tickets, reconfirm flights,
organize trips around Bali etc.
Perama Tours is nearby on Legion Street. Mr. Perama has set up a travel service for tourists that is well organized and cheap.
You
can even take one of his boats to Komodo Island and see the dragons if
you are into that sort of thing. You are not doing a cultural mingle
with the natives thing but if you are on a short holiday and don't
speak the language you are probably not going to do a whole lot of
mingling anyway.
Check out pickle's Perama page. Their buses go to Lovina, Candidasa,
Padang Bai, Lombok at a bargain price. Local transport is cheaper but
it is much more of a hassle.
Poppies 2 has a bunch of good restaurants and shops as well, as do most of the alleys in between.
In the cool of the evening you can do a lot of walking and explore
these back alleys without overheating. During the day it's hot.
It helps to walk on the shady side of the street.
It is good to not get into a rut and go to the same places every day.
There are so many hidden gems tucked away that it would take many trips
to sample them all.
