Betano
Remote southern beach
If you are searching for a remote beach that is not that difficult to get to, Betano on the south coast might be the ticket.
A mate of mine from Australia suggests checking with the locals to find out if there are any salt water crocs in the area. (just to be on the safe side!)
It’s around a 6 hours drive south of Dili depending on conditions. It would be a good idea to get fuel in the village of Same if you are running low. There is a motorbike repair shop there that can help out with plugs, chains, and other stuff like that.
There might even be a guesthouse or two in town but I didn’t notice any and it would not be western style for sure.
In Betano there are no facilities but the beach is very accessible. It is an ideal place for camping.
You could find fish for sale or catch your own but it would be best to bring any other supplies that you might need with you.
There is a sand beach and coral a few meters off shore in some places. The road follows the beach for a long ways so there are numerous camping locations to choose from.
The road is in fairly good condition all the way to Natarbora.
