Susi Hotel – Kupang
The Susi hotel has a tremendous view from the roof. It is on Jalan Sumatera near the Danamon Bank and the Maliana Hotel. The rooms start at 55,000 rupiah a night but could use a new paint job.
Just around the corner is the Lavalon Guesthouse which is probably the cheapest lodging in Kupang in west Timor. Talk to Edwin at the Lavalon Bar across the street on the waterfront.
As always in Indonesia try to get a discount, no matter if you are staying at a real high end place or a budget hostel.
In the high end hotels especially, the management often offers considerable discounts.
It is not a good idea to book rooms on the internet because you are always paying the maximum rate.
The staff at the Susi is very friendly and there is a tv in the lobby.
Always have a look at the rooms before you pay so that you will not be disappointed. Sometimes a hotel can look great on the outside and be kind of rough on the inside.
I like a fresh paint job on the walls so you don’t have to look at mildew.
There are several hotels within walking distance so it is easy to have a look at a few different ones to find the one that best suits your needs.

Hello Anthony,
Just show up and see what is available. The Maliana is next door and is worth having a look before deciding where to stay.
Edwin of the Lavalon Bar will be able to give you more local info when you get there.
Oni has rooms at the Lavalon Guest house as well – some backpackers stay there.
