Blue Plant on Batad Trail

Here are some photos of an unusual blue flower that was hanging over the trail on the short cut to Batad near Banaue in the Philippines.

This flower was hanging from a long vine around 2 meters from the ground.

If you are walking from the Batad junction over the saddle to Batad you can take the road or hike a trail that leads directly over the mountain.

It is quite a nice walk that takes an hour or so to the top and then another 45 minutes to descend to the viewpoint and restaurants in Batad.

The water in the streams coming down from the mountains is fresh and clear and can be used for drinking so you just have to carry empty water bottles.

If you don’t have the energy to walk to the top, a jeepney can be hired in Banaue to drive you up there so you only have to walk down hill to Batad from there.

It is quite expensive so it would be a good idea to hook up with a few others so you can share the costs.

If you haven’t been hiking for a while just slow down and pace yourself because it’s not a race.

There is a lot of neat stuff to see along the way.

There are several guesthouses and restaurants in Batad itself so it would be very easy to spend a few days there and use it as a base to explore the surrounding area.
