Mount Mayon Volcano - Legaspi – Philippines
The skies around Mt Mayon were clear today – Happy New Year!

The Daraga Evacuation Center is across the street from the McDonalds where I am uploading this page.
Legaspi
Mayon has such a perfect shape that I can’t resist stopping and taking pictures.

Cagsawa
I met Miguel from Spain last night at Lingnon Hill in Legaspi and we made plans to take some pictures around Cagsawa. He only had a day so we tried to check out the area near the ruins. I got a chance to look at the crater through his camera and – wow – incredible! Having a camera with a telephoto and time lapse feature really opens up the door for amazing pictures. For now I am going to stick with my point and click Kodak because it is so handy.
Miguel blasted through 8 gigs of memory on his card in short order!

wonderful pics DP, no need a fancy lens for you, your doing just fine as is.
Really brings back memories looking your photos, I leave NZ tomorrow and will be back RP in a few days. Quite high on the list is another trip up to mayon…especially as the danger of an erruption seems to have lessened. I just love this area and the mountain.
My only reservation is the corruption and hassle in Masbate where the paper work and expense seems to endless. I have heard there is a trip from kawayan to Bogo which would be preferable, or down to Samar which would add considerable time.
Keep up the good work, hope to catch up with you soon.
Hi bruce,
Thanks for the compliment!
Another option might be taking the Roble Ferry to Catbalogan Samar, and then driving up from there.

Roble Shipping ferry Catbalogan to Cebu City

It only goes once a week
“The economy fare is 650 pesos per person and it cost me 750 pesos plus port fees for the bike.”
“We left Cebu City around 9pm on Thurs and got to Catbalogan around 6:30am.
It took a half hour or so to clear the port authority and then we were off.”

ps I drove up to Legaspi and back to Ormoc two times last month. 14 hours each way- 3 times straight through – rested on the Allen Ferry
Hi Dp,
how looks situation with Mt. Mayon now? Is it possible to do trek to 1. camp already? We will come there in the begining of March.
Best Regards
Marketa
Hello Marketa,
The warning level at Mt Mayon changes regularly. I have no way to know what it will be in March but it is highly unlikely that you will be able to climb the mountain at that time.
Possibly , you will be able to go up to the observatory at then but there is no way of knowing what mood the mountain will be in at that time!
cheers
