Chocolate Hills
Bohol Philippines
View from the lookout over the Chocolate Hills. We had come from Ormoc Leyte, across to Bohol by ferry and were heading south to Loboc to see what the Nuts Huts Resort was like.
Chocolate Hills
There are more than a one thousand of these hills that resemble chocolate drops in the dry season, near the town of Carmen.
The Chocolate Hills as seen from the tourist viewpoint.
During the dry season these hills turn brown making them appear to be chocolate chips.
Chocolate Hills – youtubevideo – this video is too dark but you can get a general feeling for it – this is taken from the tourist hill but it can be more fun just driving around the countryside and seeing these hills sprinkled in between the rice fields
Nuts Huts – youtube video – this is a neat little resort down by the river – they have mountain bikes and motorcycles for rent too – backpackers might enjoy chilling out here for a few days
We started noticing these hills popping up randomly in the fields alongside the highway and decided to take a quick detour to the tourist point to take a few pictures before getting a room for the night.
Tarsier Farm – youtube video – there are several tourist traps set up alongside the highway where you can see captive tarsiers
We started out day at 3:30 am and drove down to Bato to get the ferry to Ubay, Bohol. We were lucky that we had stopped for a look the first day because rain started the following morning and didn’t stop for 5 days.
Huge Python and birds – interesting youtube video featuring Prony the huge docile python that has lived his life here in captivity
It would be far more interesting to spend a day or two driving the back roads in the area, but with only two days to see Bohol, we did our best. The plan is to go back and do it right one of these days.
A beautiful road that winds through some of these hills is the one between Carmen and Tubigon. You see the farmers fields tucked in between the hills and it looks kind of cool!

Hi!
You dont have to go to Bohol to see Chocolate Hills.
Negros has its very own Chocolate hills.
You can find them on the Eco-translink Highway, that runs between San Carlos and Bacolod via Don Salvador Benedicto municipality, near the small town Kabay-asan.
The GPS co-ordinates are: 10°30’11.56″N, 123°17’19.11″E

Hi DP.
You’re not the only one who didn’t know about the Negros Chocolate hills. None of my Family in Victorias or Manapla had ever heard about it. So It was great furn for me to be their tourguide and show them what a fantastic and beautiful Island they are livin on:-)
Before my vacation, I had done some serious research on the internet and, with the help of Google Earth, made some maps with points of interrest that I wanted to see.
We only mannaged to cover just about half of Negros Occ in three weeks.
I am going there again January 2011 to see the rest of it… I Hope to have time enough to see some of Negros Oriental too.. :-)
Hello Claus,
Thanks again! – feel free to link any more of your pictures or add information about Negros. You have some good stuff!
I suggest making a trip over to Sipalay on the east side of Negros on your next trip. The area a relaxing vibe that is difficult to find around Dumaguete.
cheers

Hey Dp.
I have been at Sipalay/Sugar Beach on route to The Ubong caves and Pitogo Island near Hinoba-an.
It seems like a relaxed place… It is very clean.
One very interresting thing to mention is The Fishmarket…. There is an huge variety of fish for sale, but avoid buying fish there yourselves… Take a look at what is offered, make a list and send someone to buy the fish for you…. there is a huge difference between touristprices and localprices:-)
Hello Claus,
Thanks for the tip!
I was just in the fish market in Surigao, Mindanao yesterday – I love doing that!
