Orchid Garden

The road next to the Petron Station leads up the Orchid Gardens. For 10 pesos you can have a look around.

This large commercial orchid grower that must ship most of his plants to Cebu City. I have been told that he ships overseas as well.

It's interesting to see how they grow these plants without any soil.

img_0703.jpgThey put coconut husks in the pots or just hang these orchids in the air and let the roots dangle down underneath a canopy of shade screen.

A myna bird and another bird with a tuft of feathers above its beak stay in a cage near the entrance.

You can take a tricycle from the market for 10 pesos or walk from the Moalboal market in 15 minutes.

img_2924.jpgUpdate Jan 2008

Here area few more photos I took today at the Orchid Gardens. You can swim at the pool for 50 pesos per person when you are through having a look around.

img_2896.jpgThere are quite a few birds and monkeys in the cages behind the house.

The monkeys and hornbills are very aggressive so it might be a good idea to watch the kids.

The little monkey in particular is very quick and it looks like he would not hesitate to bite. He grabbed my camera out of my hands before I had a chance to pull back.

Lucky thing that I had the strap around my wrist or it would have bounced along on the cement walkway.

img_2867.jpgThe hornbills strike with their bills and could do some damage too. They are an exceptionally beautiful bird and it was good to see how healthy they are.

This place is definitely worth the 10 peso entrance fee.
