Moalboal Cebu -Orchid Garden Growing Orchids
The road next to the Petron Station in Moalboal leads up the Orchid Gardens. For 10 pesos you can have a look around.
This large commercial orchid grower that must ship most of his plants to Cebu City. I have been told that he ships overseas as well.
It’s interesting to see how they grow these plants without any soil.
They put coconut husks in the pots or just hang these orchids in the air and let the roots dangle down underneath a canopy of shade screen.
A myna bird and another bird with a tuft of feathers above its beak stay in a cage near the entrance.
Beautiful orchid
You can take a tricycle from the market for 10 pesos or walk from the Moalboal market in 15 minutes.
Update Jan 2008
Here area few more photos I took today at the Orchid Gardens. You can swim at the pool for 50 pesos per person when you are through having a look around.
Hornbill
There are quite a few birds and monkeys in the cages behind the house.
The monkeys and hornbills are very aggressive so it might be a good idea to watch the kids.
The little monkey in particular is very quick and it looks like he would not hesitate to bite. He grabbed my camera out of my hands before I had a chance to pull back.
Lucky thing that I had the strap around my wrist or it would have bounced along on the cement walkway.
The hornbills strike with their bills and could do some damage too.
They are an exceptionally beautiful bird and it was good to see how healthy they are.
This place is definitely worth the 10 peso entrance fee.

Good day! I would like to ask your contact number very important, i would like to know the prices of the orchid seedlings or flowering plant & the shipping overseas.. Please reply immediately… Thank you & God Bless…
Hello mary josephine,
I do not have the wholesale contact information for the Orchid Gardens in Moalboal – I suggest that you stop in for a look at the garden in Moalboal some day if you live in the Philippines.
I have seen the orchid seedlings for sale in glass containers before but do not know how they distribute them.
There is an art to growing young orchids and it is not done on site, but closer to Cebu City in a lab-like facility.

I’m planing to visit and buy orchids. Do I need permit to bring them to the US. If so please tell me the necessary papers needed. Thanks
Please advice.
It would be best to do some research with the US Customs service before you begin to attempt to import live plants into the country. I believe there are strict standards when importing plants or animals of any type into the country and the importation of earth (planting soil) is likely not permitted. These regulations protect the agricultural in the US from invasive insects, bacterias, fungus etc.

Hi Are you still in business?
I think the orchid gardens are still in operation. Just turn up the roar by the Petron Station if you are interested in having a look. We used to swim at their pool when I lived in Moalboal but I do not have residence there anymore, but I so plan to take a drive over there this afternoon. (Sunday)
