Sinulog is the biggest festival in Cebu City and resembles Mardi Gras
in Rio. Colorful native costumes and dance are featured for 9 days but
the big day is the 3rd Sunday of January when a huge street parade
shuts down the city.
I wasn't able to be there Sunday but enjoyed the shows put on at night in Osmena Circle. This is the biggest event of the year for many.
Dancers come from all the provinces and really put a lot of effort in their performances. The groups from Mindanao are the best to me.
Food stalls and kiosks line Osmena Blvd and it becomes a big street party. Pit Senyor the patron saint of is carried around by the leaders of the dance groups.
I am not sure if it is supposed to be the Christ Child but he is also known as Santo Nino. There are also 3 big Santa Clauses with sleighs and gifts in the circle. The Filipino people never grow weary of Christmas.
It would have been cool to stick around and catch the main parade on Sunday but most of the hotels in Cebu were booked and I wasn't able to make it.
