Surf entry and exit when scuba diving
There was a tropical depression in Cebu yesterday giving the sea a little life and making it more challenging for the divers.
The patio at Cora’s was an ideal vantage point to watch different surf exit techniques used by the divers.
One dive boat of divers unloaded beyond the surf with fins, and some of the more unsure ones with complete scuba gear for the trip ashore.
Seeing that, I put on my shoes and set my cell phone and wallet in the room in case someone might need a little assistance.
I might be able to help even though I am not a good swimmer..
As the European divers reached shore they could not stand and rolled in and out with the surf because they could not get their fins off.
One diver got some help ashore and was ok.
Later a boat load of Korean divers came ashore. Thinking ahead, they did not wear fins but just wore a wet suit and set off through the surf.
It went smoothly and here are the pictures. I respectfully didn’t take pictures of the other guys.
It is best to remove your fins before it becomes shallow enough to touch bottom with your feet or it will be very difficult to remain in control.
If you are still wearing your scuba gear as in a shore dive keep the regulator in your mouth in case you get churned under for a while.
If coming off of a dive boat I think it is best to not be wearing any scuba gear because it is quite heavy and will make the exit more difficult.
If coming back from a shore dive you just have to do your best, but remove the fins before you get into the surf.
Keep an eye out behind you so you can prepare for the bigger waves and use them to your advantage.
