chads-lodging-house-012This “resort” has an impressive sounding name for a 100 peso per person per nite lodging house. In all fairness to the owners, I would have to say that they are some of the friendliest and helpful people that I’ve yet met on my travels in the Philippines.

chads-lodging-house-008We landed up renting a room in their other lodging house near the sea. Kapuso Kapamilya. It is quite a bit nicer and we had the cottage all to ourselves.

chads-lodging-house-004If I was just traveling on my own, Chads would have been ok, but the Kapuso is so much nicer that it was worth the extra money.

I live within the Philippine economy, so the extra 300 peso makes a difference to me.

chads-lodging-house-007One reason that a traveler might find himself in this area is for the whale sharks that are occasionally seen migrating down the coast of Sogod Bay  in southern Leyte.

The snorkeling and diving is pretty good too. There are no dive shops on this side of Sogod Bay yet. There are at least 4 on the Padre Burgos side.

chads-lodging-house-006A beautiful concrete road was recently completed that runs all the way to San Ricardo at the southern tip of Leyte. The ferry terminal that will support the traffic across to Surigao on Mindanao has just been completed, but the ferries have not yet started running as of this writing. (May 2009)

chads-lodging-house-005I think that this area will soon find itself on the tourist trail because it is now so easy to get to.

chads-lodging-house-001If you are passing through, it is well worth spending a few days exploring Pintuyan.

chads-lodging-house-013Check some of the other pages about this area including the Kapuso Kapamilya. I did not combine the two so that the pictures of the lodging houses would not run together.

I also put up a page comparing the whaleshark spotting in Donsol, Sorsogon to the way it’s done in Pintuyan, Leyte. There are no high end resorts on this side of the bay so you can really travel on the cheap here.

  3. Hello.

To whom may reply… I will travel to San Juan, Southern Leyte to attend a fesival in early Sep. I’m having trouble locating accomadations. I see “Chads” as one place but I’m confused on its exact location in relation to the festival. I get Leyte, I also get San Juan, but what is “Poblacion Pintuyan”. And also, what is the diferance betweeen the Municipality of San Juan and San Juan, if any. Is ther many lodging places? Is there a web site I can go to that shows them all (San Juan only).

I would appreciate any assistance one could render..

    Thank you.

    Ken Garnsey…

  4. Hi there,

Does anyone know if Pintuyan National Vocation School (PNVS) has its own website? Also, the Municipality of Pintuyan? Currently, I am residing in Vancouver,Canada and would like to touch-base with my former teachers if they are still around…I obtained my secondary education from this institution back in 1988; I got my university degree in Commerce Major in Accounting from DWU in Tacloban City; became a CPA in 1993; employed in Manila as Finance Manager for more than 10 years; and migrated here in Canada on May 25, 2006.

The website if available would be a great avenue to keep in touch with my classmates; and be informed if there are upcoming activities for our Alma Mater. By having this, we could also exchange our views and come up with a sound resolution of how we could impart or help to improve the educational system of our school and etc.

By the way, I am and will always be a son of Catbawan, Pintuyan, Southern Leyte. I might become a Canadian citizen soon by paper, but by heart I am still a Filipino and proud of my roots. I am looking forward to come home maybe in 2 or 3 years time to visit my family especially my beloved mother.

Thank you very much for this opportunity, and I would be very grateful to hear any feedback with this respect.

    God bless,

    Marc Mocon
