Jean Beliveau – walks around the world
Beliveau in southern Leyte in the Philippines.
Jean has been on the road since the year 2000 and figures that he still has a little over 2 years to go before he crosses the finish line in Montreal, Canada where he began his journey.
When walking across Egypt, the officials there indicated that if anything bad happened to him – it wouldn’t happen in Egypt. They assigned 12 soldiers to walk with him the entire length of the country and they even helped push his walking buggy.
Jean says that the people of Iran were very nice and overwhelmed him with kindness, contrary to what some people told him to expect.

Jean has found the Philippines to be a super friendly and a beautiful country.

I made a short youtube video but have a very hard time uploading it because of my connection here. It usually takes me 5 hours per minute of video. Will put the link here when it finally uploads.
Jean Beliveau walking around the world
In the Philippines -
Jean Beliveau started in Pagudpud on the north coast of Luzon, and was over half way to Zamboanga already. He walks up to 35 kilometers a day and rarely stays in hotels, but gets invited into peoples homes etc. This is a unique perspective most of us don’t get.
The mayor of Manila shut down a lane of Roxas Blvd. and a thousand marchers joined Jean and the mayor as they strolled along.
His son joined him for a few weeks in Bicol – the province where Donsol Bay and the whale sharks are found. He took a break and got a chance to swim with a few and was delighted!
I met Jean in Leyte near the turn off to Bay Bay and then headed down to Pintuyan for several days with my girlfriend, Beth. We rented a beautiful place down there for 500 pesos a day and stayed for 4 days.
On the way back to Ormoc, I caught a glimpse of Jean walking into a small town on a side street so we turned around to have lunch with him. Fish and rice were on the menu and we both spent around 40 pesos.
His plan was to catch a lift on a small boat across the Surigao straits to Mindanao and then start walking to Zamboanga where he could then catch a ferry to Sandakan in Malaysia.
I forgot to ask him about his plans when he finishes this journey but here is his website if you want to follow his progress. His wife back home keeps up the site and helps out with his connections. She must be quite a lady too!

Hello,
I am a reporter in Canada, filing a story today about Jean Beliveau.
He is the man who is walking around the world, to raise awareness for peace.
I came across the video you shot of him on Youtube, when he was in the Phillipines.
May we use it in our broadcast please? We would courtesy you, of course.
It is great footage.
Kind regards,

Hello Janet Dirks,
Jean Beliveau is quite an interesting man and it was a pleasure to cross paths with him several times in Leyte – Philippines. He really had stamina.
If you want to use that youtube clip in your broadcast that would be ok with me.
