MacArthur’s Landing Leyte WW2
This memorial from WW2 is about 9 kilometers from downtown Tacloban off the south bound highway to Lilloan.

The General looks more refreshed as a statue than in pictures of the actual landing that show him being more chubby.

The Philippine President Sergio Osmena and General Carlos P. Romulo accompanied MacArthur in the landing.

The Battle of Leyte Gulf was the last major engagement of WW2. The Japanese were driven out of the Philippines after holding the island nation for 3 years.

The closer you get the bigger they are.

October 2008 update
The pond has been filled with water!

The park itself is a great place to relax by the water’s edge. There’s a row of buko juice stands where you can sample coconut juice and enjoy the breeze.
