Malate Pensionne and Starbucks Coffee Manila 1771 M. Adriatico Street
tel 523-83-04 to 06 fx 522-66-26
Malate Pensionne is across the street from another favorite – the Friendly’s Guesthouse on Adriatico St.
The check in is down the hallway that runs alongside the Starbucks Coffee shop which is worth a visit for sure!
This pensionne and coffee shop is a good base for trips starting in Manila. They also offer a few dorm accommodations but there were never any available when was in town so I stayed at the Friendly’s Guesthouse (but still made regular trips to the coffee shop ha ha!)
Starbucks snacks
Adriatico is a busy street that runs to the Robinson Mall about 4 blocks away and you are only 3 streets in from Roxas Blvd on the waterfront. Pizza places and many local carinderias are within easy walking distance.
A local vegetable market is within walking distance too.

I didn’t take any pictures of the rooms but will put up some contact info here.
At this time there is construction of a large building right next door.
The Malate Pensionne is located behind the building with the construction crane on the roof. I think that it is intended to be a condo building.

Starbucks Coffee
I have stayed in this place 10 to 15 years ago but the look of it has changed quite a bit since the Starbucks Coffee was built.
It is in a good location and the staff can be helpful with information. comments welcome below

The Malate Pension is a good value but there are other budget options nearby – Friendly’s Guesthouse across the street and the Pension Natividad on M.H.Del Pilar two streets towards the bay. The Pension Natividad has a good breakfast and is well visit – even if only to eat and relax in shade under the trees.
I didn’t stay at the Malate Pensionne this time around because they were fully booked, but I did eat some of the pastries at the Starbucks Co0ffee shop and had a few coffees over several days too.
There is a good fruit and vegetable market within 10 minutes walking distance where I picked up some delicious mangos. If you ever wanted to try a durian – NOW IS THE TIME!
The spikey fruit in the front left box are durians. They have a unique flavor and a pungent odor and might not be allowed in the hotel room because many people find them to be offensive. they would likely cut one up in the market for you. Just eat what you want and leave the rest for them.
Mango and mangosteen- a handy way to eat mangoes is to just peel off the skin and eat them like an apple.
