The Cocout Bay Resort runs some deep discounts on their rooms (mid week and low season) and is one of the best values I’ve come across in Mindanao.. Its about 10 kilometers from town going east on the National Highway.
It serves as a function hall for all sorts of events including kid’s birthday parties, so it might get a bit mad at times.
There are several swimming pools and cabanas facing the bay. The restaurant serves good food and it is a nice place to rest up for a day or two.
Coconut is positioned on the bay but the “beach” probably isn’t a good place to swim.
With discount, a very nice room with 2 beds, hot water, and air will run around 1,000 to 1,300 pesos.
Be sure to ask for the promo rate!
Always ask for a discount or special rate no matter where stay in the Philippines. If you qualify for a senior discount you will often get 10 percent off as well.
Unlike in the USA, where booking online can save you a lot of money, my feeling is that booking online for hotels in Indonesia (Bali) and the Philippines will almost always cost you at least 50 percent more than a walk in would cost.
Here is my view about travel in Mindanao:
Bad things could happen anywhere, but travel in the Cagayan de Oro area presents a very low risk to the tourist.

Coconut bay is a nice resort in a good location east of Cagayan. They have plenty of room for parties. I thing that they will be able to get you a good deal if you contact them directly.

dutchpickle stayed at the Coconut Bay Resort last week for two nights while passing through Cagayan de Oro (CDO) in Mindanao
I think that I paid 700 – 800 pesos per night for a great room with ac, satellite tv, hot water.
They also have a great little restaurant and 3 swimming pools.
dutchpickle highly recommends the Coconut Bay Resort but you will have to make your own reservation – we only do recommendations!
You will be ok as a “walk in” on week days but the weekends are usually packed.
Coconut Bay is not near the town center so you will have to sort out transportation when you want to go anywhere, because nothing is within walking distance.

The cottages are very nice with air con, hot water showers, and cable but I don’t think that they have bath tubs, but there are several swimming pools.

Coconut Bay Resort is a very good choice – for a place to stay in the Cagayan de Oro area. They have 3 swimming pools and a good restaurant, cable, aircon, hot water shower. The “beach” out front is nice to look at but not good for swimming.

I am from the United States and just returned from spending 10 days at the Coconut Bay beach and resort. It was a wonderful place for a vacation for me and my fiancee. All of the staff there were very pleasant. The rates for the room we stayed in were very reasonable as compared to here in the States. The food was excellent. I usually eat at the restaurant by the pool when I stay at the Coconut Bay.
They have good food at a reasonable price and it saves you chasing around town. I am not sure about their seafood menu but I really enjoyed a shrimp dish there a few times.

I have made three trips from the USA to Mindanao .There are quite a few places to choose from. I and my Filipina wife choose Coco Bay repeatedly because Its a great place to relax and walk around the grounds, after spending hours couped up on an airplane .Its like an oasis in the middle of a very busy city. Its also secure,clean, and quiet.The hospitality is warm and friendly. The food is great.Having breakfast and conversation at the open air, seaside dining area is great
One particular moment that is still memorable and very symbolic of the service and hospitality,is when we were having breakfast at the seaside dining area. Our waiter was a young man from Jasaan. My wife commented to him that I was hungry . I was absolutely stunned to see him jog to the service desk to place our order.No where in the entire USA has anyone ever ran to place my order.

Just to let you know ,Our wedding was held there in Cocobay Beach Resort ,January 25th of 2004.
It was a great place to stay.We supposed to have a
garden wedding but ,it rained.(they said it was a blessing).so the wedding ceremony was at the reception.
Actually ,I had 200 guests ,I thought but I don’t know
how in the world it became 300 people .
Last April 18,2010 ,I went back to see what Cocobay
looks like now.I was there with some friends ,There
was improvement ,new cottages and a mini park,so what
I did,took pictures and post it to FaceBook.
My relatives in abroad like Germany ,London ,Texaas
was asking me what place was this? Its AWESOME!
I told them it was really awesome , I invited them

My friend also got married to a canadian like me ,
and our wedding was held in cocobay ,cdo.

Our entire course is planning to have an acquaintance party this coming July 2010. The approximate number of people who is going to attend is around 500.
I would like to ask if you accommodate this number of people in your function hall? the motif of our party is mostlikely Hawaiian/tsinilas party, so probably @ the pool.
the prospect time of the party starts from 1pm to 10pm
our concern is only the venue, we will bring our own food. Is it okay?
How much would be the reservation for the entire function hall, the one with the biggest pool.

I am assuming that you live in CDO and can stop in and talk to the owner or the manager to make arrangements for a group this big.
This resort could handle 500 people but there might be an issue with having enough parking if many of your guests are driving their own cars.
There probably is enough room in the alley for additional parking.
I think that the Coconut Bay has 3 swimming pools.
It would be unusual to hire out the function facilities and bring your own food, but talk to the owner and see what you can work out.

Hi, just wanted to comment on this resort… I stayed there when I came to visit my fiance (now wife). I was there for 3 weeks. I never had a bad experience. The staff was great! 1 thing I also liked was that the staff records the taxi number of each taxi you ride in, in case there is a problem. This helped a friend of mine that forgot his cam corder and camera in the taxi. Because the staff recorded the taxi # he was able to retreive his belongings quickly… My wife and I traveled all over the city and I never felt threatened at all. we are coming back this fall and will stay there… I plan to stay there every time we come back. I love it there!!!

i stayed at coconut bay in 2002 for about 3 months, this is a wanderful and very friendly place to stay,with good eats and very clean huts,i been back to philippines 2 r 3 times since to diffrent islands but have found no other place like coconut bay,they r the best on prices of any place in philippines,im planning on return trip soon. thanks for ur hospitality
