Koronadal City, west of General Santos, is a good jumping off point for a trip to Lake Sebu up in the mountains. There is plenty of lodging up at the lake itself but I was traveling alone and wanted to stay somewhere close to town, (too boring up there without a companion). I did make a quick trip up there for grilled tilapia on the way back from Cotobato City, but wanted to stay in Koronadal for the night.
It was a pleasure to chance upon the newly opened Greenstate Suites. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, there are restaurants nearby, and a Honda dealership was within walking distance.
I never use a guide book because they often miss the good stuff. It’s more fun to look around on your own.

Koronadal Honda was just 200 meters up the road. I had to do some work on the front end and decided to have all the seals in the engine replaced while we were at it.
I had the machine shop next door do a bit of creative hammering. Traveling by motorbike will always require a bit of maintenance.
I use Honda just because parts can be found almost everywhere in the Philippines.
Just to give an idea:
On this bike I have 37,000 kilometers
5 rear tires
3 front tires
1 chain, 1 – 51 tooth rear sprocket, 1 – 14 tooth front sprocket (hi torque but low speed)
11 inner tubes, all rear (heavy loads)
2 spark plugs
1 set clutch linings
2 clutch cables replaced
1 speedometer cable replaced
2 ignition switches replaced (probably corroded from endless rain)
1 front fender
1 headlight bulb replaced
2 sets foot pegs
all seals and gaskets replaced at least once
4 turn signals
1 front fairing
15 oil changes
the gas tank has to be reattached soon as well
…just got back from hauling a bag of rice to my girls sari sari store 16 k up in the mountains. Bags of salt are so easy to haul because they are dead weight but bags of rice have more bounce and are forever trying to shift their position once you get off the tarmac.
There is no place like the Philippines for riding motorbikes!

It was one lane traffic coming back from Lake Sebu!
These ducks had it figured out…they did not stray over the line.
Well trained ducks walking on the road from Lake Sebu

Climbing Mount Apo

Wood Boat to Manila Philippines
Wouldn’t mind some “ROAST DUCK” right now…Yes its endless fixing up your motorbike with all kinds of new parts in the Philippines as the roads are in very bad shape sometimes.

I can’t wait to get back to Palawan again one of these days.
Looking forward to seeing you and Cheryl.
You have traveled a lot of dirt road there in Palawan but it is amazing the improvements, especially in the south.

Bruce should just about have those new 17″ tubes for you in Siquijor.
I’m not surprised your gas tank is finally parting company with the frame. Bags of salt or rice sitting in it just has to overload the tank mounts! Your bike is a testament to Honda’s technology.
I have been researching some better brake pads for our XT Yamahas, got onto some Ferodo Platinum pads at a good price here. They look to be what I want, better initial bite with a good grip and kind to the discs. I have never liked the original Yamaha brake pads, they just don’t inspire confidence if you need to slow up in a hurry.
Gotta get some new tires soon, the front is finished and we replaced Bruce’s front in Legaspi City. All that was available was a Philippine made Fuji, at P700 it was a good buy, and he reports that so far it performs the same as the Bridgestone it replaces. However we will wait and see how it wears.
Like the new logos you are working with, very eye catching.
Cheers
Lindsay
Those are behaved ducklings!
Hi Lindsay,
Many thanks!
As Bruce mentioned – my rear tire gets wears on the center prematurely when I am running overinflated tires, but it’s a trade off.
It is no surprise that I get very few flat tires now that I have moved from Samar. That place was brutal on the equipment!
Thanks the comments about the headers – hope to have them up in a couple of days. Hopefully they will give the site more visual appeal.
Thanks again on the tubes!

Hi Leng,
