The Old Barracks Suites – Sudapin Kidapawan City
Cotobato Mindanao
telĀ 064 288-1299
I was passing through Cotabato province in Mindanao and decided to stop in Kidapawan City to get some information about climbing Mt. Apo for my website. It started raining just as I was coming to town so I decided to stay the night and have a look around for a few days.
The Old Barraks Suites had great curb appeal, wi-fi connection, and a good little cafe out front.
I paid for another night this morning and went down to the tourist center near city hall to get some information about climbing nearby Mt. Apo. It is not a technical climb but it is the highest mountain peak in the Philippines so it should be interesting.

The internet connection is a big plus!

Crisp morning sunrise!
On the way down the mountain…
I stopped at the local Honda shop across the highway to get an oil change on my trusty TMX. It’s a simple job but they do it for 30 pesos and recycle the oil.

Kidapawan was a comfortable place to spend a week waiting on the weather and climbing Apo.

Rick,
This looks from your photos that the old barracks suites are in fact very new and not old at all!

Hey Gary!
Good to hear from you. Yes mate, I checked in there last night and was very happy with the food and the internet as well. The carpenters are working on the hotel right now – The addition is very nice and fresh.
Making plans to climb Mt. Apo tomorrow.
…was planning on cutting straight through and going to Gen San but this was too tempting!
I think Cotabato is not as risky as many say, but I did pass through 6 military checkpoints yesterday. They were wondering what a white guy with a load of dive gear on a hable-hable was doing cruising around the neighborhood.
Most of the roads have one lane closed because the local farmers are drying corn on the highway. It’s kind of cool!
cheers

Glad you came into my hometown in Kidapawan. I never knew about this hotel here!
