Giant Butterfly

While riding on the Lite Shipping ferry from Ormoc to Cebu I was awakened by the whoosh of flapping wings of this cool looking butterfly trying to land on my face.

What a beauty…

cebu-ormoc-lite-11It was strange to find a perfect butterfly on a boat at sea.

…anyway, if you need a cheap way to get from Ormoc to Cebu – the fare on the overnight Lite Shipping costs 350 pesos. It leaves Ormoc 10 pm and arrives in Cebu City around 4am. (Every day except Friday – be sure to check the paper for most recent schedules) Most passengers stay on the boat and sleep ’till 6am when it’s light and some shops are starting to open.

There is a 24 hour Jolibees on Maxilom Ave if  you have to kill some time before checking into a hotel or making another connection.

If going from Cebu to Ormoc – get your ticket at Pier One. The boat leaves at 11am every day but Friday, but the schedule is subject to change so always check the paper first. Pay the 350 fare and pay the 10 peso port fee. Walk out the door to the waiting area for the bus that will take you to the boat. Plan on arriving in Ormoc around 5pm.

  1. Interesting DP where I tend to spend quite a bit of time on Siquijor there are many of these butterflies or as the locals say alibangbang. First time I saw one I was convinced it was a bat, huge and flew so slowly.

Maybe the one you saw was for what ever reason hitching a ride to Cebu. Some of these reach up to 20 cm wing span, beautiful creatures.

Have also taken the Lite shipping for my bike transportation, otherwise prefer the fast ferries.

  2. its a bringer of good fortune at least that’s what our old folks in Ormoc believes. So next time you see em flying around and it drops on to ur laps be merry.Welcome to Ormoc!!

  3. Sorry to disappoint you folks, bot that aint no butterfly, it’s a month. Butterfly’s close their wings when they rest, but most moths open them. Even so, it’s still one huge moth.
