Filipino Wedding

filipino-wedding-0014Filipino wedding in Samar

I am not a very good socialite but my friend Mr. Pacoli asked me to be in attendance at his daughters wedding in Catbalogan, Samar last Saturday.

In a show of respect and to experience a bit of Filipino culture I accepted my friend’s invitation.

filipino-wedding-0007Mr. Pacoli knows that I am most comfortable riding trails in the back country wearing tattered jeans and flip flops so he casually mentioned that I would show up wearing a barong. He is one cool guy and has been seen on a few occasions riding on the back seat of my hable-hable around town.

filipino-wedding-0012Filipino tradition dictates that all events are started behind schedule. I arrived at the church at 15 minutes till 2 and the church was still locked.

img_1518I went down to Joey’s cafe by the park and decided to wait in the shade for the rest of the party to show up. I looked strangely out of place wearing that barong (fancy embroidered shirt) but at least it wasn’t too hot under that tree.

filipino-wedding-00081Mr and Mrs Pacoli put a lot of work into making sure that everything worked out well. Melanie did her part too and looked good getting ready to walk down the isle.

filipino-wedding-0009It was explained to me by the monsignor that this was a “mixed marriage”. Dave and Melanie were of different religions – Catholic and Methodist .

filipino-wedding-0010The whole thing went smoothly but I was a bit surprised when they handed me the mike and expected a speech. I couldn’t really think too quickly and just kept it short – Good Luck and God Bless!

I found out later that they were thankful that I didn’t start yaking too long because it was hot and everyone was ready to get out of there anyway.

filipino-wedding-0019To avoid putting up a super boring page I decided to include pictures of people taking pictures!

  2. you ain’t gettin’ any younger, guy. it’s time to lock something down, while you still have all your original teeth!

and in the event of a marriage, i’ll fly out for the wedding, so long as it’s on a nice beach and NOT boracay!

  3. Dutchpickle,

Only guys that are already married want other “SINGLE” guys like yourself to get married.

    Don’t do it mate…

Just loved your page on the fruit and veg

The guy who says don’t do it has a point, but there again having met your lovely girlfriend and you in Catbalogan it might not be such a bad idea.

Anyway keep up your blogging and enjoying your adventures

    Dave
