The worker that takes pride in his work and does a superior job has discovered one of the secrets of life.

Jeremiar Gasga of the Honda shop in Naga, Philippines is one of those guys.

honda-naga-017.jpgI limped into Naga from Manila with a burned out clutch on a Saturday night on a small Honda TMX motorbike. The Honda shop was open but the parts dept. was closed on Sunday morning.

honda-naga-014.jpgJeremiar said that he was willing to replace the clutch linings but I would have to round up the parts in town. He set about taking the bike apart whilst I rounded up the parts.

honda-naga-001.jpgBy the time I got back, he had already removed the old parts and was ready to work. There was not a spot of oil on his white coveralls.

honda-naga-004.jpgI noticed that he had been a contestant in the Honda Mechanics Olympics and was duly impressed. It is a joy to see someone who really knows what they are doing. He had been working in Calamba, Laguna near Manila, but moved back to Naga to be near his family.

honda-naga-019.jpgThe 5 clutch linings were around 100 pesos each. I wanted to put in new springs but couldn’t find any.

Jeremiar tightened the chain, adjusted the valves, and replaced the linings for 450 pesos.
