Motorcycle taxi in the Philippines – new record?

The most people I have ever seen on a two wheeled motorbike was ten.

I had to spin around and try to get a photo, but the driver had turned off the national highway and started zipping through a banana field.

He was holding a steady 50 k and I had to struggle to catch up.

The skill of this driver was phenomenal! There were 2×4’s supporting a shelf on each side that two people sat on. (note the bag of rice!)

I had to be careful as I undertook him because it would have been quite a crash if we went down.

I passed, but had to drop back because we were approaching a checkpoint.

We are doing 50 k here!

You can see one of the two passengers (with white sunglasses) on the far side peeking around the guy sitting on the gas tank!

There were six people on the bike and two on each side sitting on the outriggers. Filipinos have an extraordinary sense of balance having been on motorcycles all their lives.

This was the road we were zipping down. This picture has a tricycle in it but the one with driver and 9 passengers already had gone.

I just came back from a Manila to Zambaonga road trip and can not say enough about what a good time Mindanao is.
