Unusual fish in the Ormoc Market

unusual-fish-005This is the first time I’ve seen a fish like this.

I went to the fish market in Ormoc, Leyte yesterday to buy a few fish. It was Good Friday and the market was almost deserted, except for a few vendors selling the odd fish.

unusual-fish-003Are there any divers out there that can identify this fish?

unusual-fish-004Here is one more view of this guy. I was going to buy it and keep it for a closer look, but when the seller noticed my interest she jacked the price up to 5o pesos.

That is over a dollar US , so being true to my “cheap Charlie” reputation - I gave it a pass.

unusual-fish-009This big eyed red fish is super delicious, called paraka in Waray but I don’t know the English word for it.

It is one of the best fish that I have ever eaten!

I did ask a bunch of people what the fish at the top was but no one I talked to had seen it before. It really is a cool looking rascal.
