Western Union money transfers in the Philippines
Western Union is even more deeply ingrained into the Filipino’s life than the Jolibee hamburger chain.
Girls with internet boyfriends have them show their love by sending money through Western Union.
Overseas foreign workers send money back to the family using Western Union and people throughout the island chain support each other by sending money through Western Union as well.
Domestic transfers are much cheaper than sending money from overseas. To send 1000 pesos or less costs 85 peso. As the amount being sent increases the fees do as well.
If sending money to the Philippines from overseas there is a hefty fee and when Western Union changes the money into pesos there is another gouge. They have it figured out and get a cut out of every ones action.
If you intend to send a substantial amount of send money on a continuous basis, consider wiring money directly to your bank instead.
To collect money at any Western Union office in the Philippines the recipient will have to have 2 forms of id and know the money transfer control number. They are pretty tight about that after being scammed so many times.
Even sending small amounts of money within the Philippines requires 2 forms of id and it takes an hour or so. Hard to believe, but true.

how much wiring fee you will charge about 200.000 amount of money from philippines to taiwan
Hi Sam,
I am obviously not the one to do Western Union money transfers. dutchpickle does not handle wire transfers
There are so many Western Union offices to choose from in the Philippines. Just walk into one and ask.
International transfers are much more costly than domestic ones – that means that if you send money to someone in the Taiwan from the Philippines the rate you are charged will be much higher than you would be charged if you sent money to someone in the Philippines from the Philippines.

may i know how much wire charge if i send $22 in the U.S.? Im from the philippines.
Hi Elle,
Please check with the Western Union office you plan to use.
I suspect that it will cost around 20 dollars to send the money internationally.
Domestically it would cost around 1.50 USD to send within the Philippines.
Note: I have no connection with Western Union.

I have very recently discovered an online money tranfer business that is considerably cheaper and more user friendly than WESTERN UNION. It is called XOOM and the customer service is great, when needed.
I have been using WU to send money to my girl in the PI for 3 1/2 yrs and have had loads of problems with them.
XOOM is the way to go, example WU=US 78.00 for a US 500.00 tranfer and XOOM=US19.00 !!!!
Please share with others, here is their site:

I am also a Phillipine lover, I have been traveling there for the last four years visiting and vacationing with my girlfriend and her family, who are now my family also.
We met in Singapore where we were both working, and it has been a very very pleasent experience learning and adapting to the Philipino culture. I am currently traveling there every two months for a ten day visit.
And it seems like an enternity between visits.
Thanks for all of the good information you share here, I have just recently found your site and have been reading loads from you….
Thanks___Salamat

I agree with this good post about using WU for transfers. Although you get a certain amount of security and convenience using western union for money transfers, sending money internationally to certain countries (in my experience here in the Philippines) can be MUCH more expensive than the rate they post on their website.
The basic transfer cost is usually advertised as being small, but what they don’t specify is the extra costs and surcharges added before the recipient gets their payout. Here in the Philippines, and many other countries, western union agents often give a TERRIBLE exchange rate for non US currency and there can be high additional surcharges on the transfer. BEWARE!!
Hello Ross
I have sent quite a few Western Union transfers to the Philippines and the charge was always 12 USD at the point of origin in the USA.
As you mention the rate of exchange is not that favorable which is why i specify that it is to be paid out in USD which I can then exchange at a good rate – for example the Robinson Mall in Cebu or the Ormoc City Hardware in Ormoc City.
For me it has worked but there are other methods I suppose. The best perhaps being to use ATM machines or to have a bank account in the Philippines that you can wire money to.
