Chocolate Hills of Negros

These hills have a striking resemblance to chose heavily touristed ones in Bohol. They are on the south side of the road as you pass over the mountains from San Carlos to Bocolod on the island of Negros.

I had put up a page about the Chocolate Hills in Bohol and reader Claus informed me about the ones here in Negros.

Hi!
You dont have to go to Bohol to see Chocolate Hills.
Negros has its very own Chocolate hills.
You can find them on the Eco-translink Highway, that runs between San Carlos and Bacolod via Don Salvador Benedicto municipality, near the small town Kabay-asan.
The GPS co-ordinates are: 10°30′11.56″N, 123°17′19.11″E

negros-negros-negros-015It’s a steep climb coming from San Carlos. The mountains up there remind me of those in East Timor, with those steep scrubby slopes. Most of the lower elevations in Negros are covered in sugar cane.

negros-negros-negros-002Rail cars are used in the sugar cane fields to transport harvested cane to the road where it gets picked up by tucks and taken to the refinery.

negros-negros-negros-024Negros is often overlooked, but there is a lot of subtle beauty on this island.

  1. Hey Dutch.
It is nice to see that you have done almost the same trip as I did. I hope more people will do the same, because the mountain areas of Northern Negros is so beautiful. And most of the people living up there is really friendly and happy to see foreigners visitting their area. It is fun to make a lot of stops and have a short chat with who ever you meet. :-)
