Moalboal to Dumaguete
Getting to Dumaguete from Moalboal can be done in 2 1/2 hours if you catch your connections without having to wait for the next boat or bus.
Catch the south bound Ceres Liner yellow bus to Bato from the market in Moalboal.
The bus doesn’t go directly to the pier but you can take a tricycle for 15 to 25 pesos from the point where the bus lets you off on the side of the road.
You have the choice of either the fast boat or the pump boat which leave from different piers.
The pumpboat ticket is aprox 39 pesos including port tax. The speed boat is around 49 pesos and gets across the straights quickly.
They both arrive at the island of Negros at the port of Sibulan. Packed multi-cabs or mini buses waiting there will take you to Dumaguete City for 8 pesos.
Be sure to get on the fullest one because they will not leave until they are overflowing.
There are several cheap hotels or pension houses near the market downtown. The Vintage Inn is a good value where single fan rooms are only 242 pesos and doubles are 352 pesos. Single air con rooms are 352 pesos and doubles are 517 pesos. AC, Cable, hot bath run between 500 pesos and 1232 pesos.
Excellent cheap meals can be had at the city market. San Miguel is 18 pesos and lite is 20 pesos. Dumaguete is a remarkably reasonable place to visit.

Did this last week. Specifically, we did:
- Trike from Panagsama Beach to Moalboal (10 mins, 50 or 60 pesos)
- Bato bound bus 1.5 hours south. 100 pesos, We told the bus ticket guy that we wanted to go to the Lilo-an ferry port, he stopped the bus along the road before Bato then …
- Trike 10 minutes to Lilo-an port. 40 pesos. Then ..
- Boat 20 minutes from Lilo-an to Sibulan. About 60 pesos.
It just happened that the Trike dropped us off at Lilo-an port about 2 minutes before the hour, and a fast ferry was leaving on the hour (immediately), so we ran to it and got on it and had no waiting.
We had the Hotel Palwa pick us up in Sibulan (free pickup with 969 peso room).
We departed Moalboal at 1:15pm and were at the Hotel Palwa in Dumaguette City at 3:40pm, because of the perfect connection at Liloan.
