Getting to Dumaguete from Moalboal can be done in 2 1/2 hours if you catch your connections without having to wait for the next boat or bus.

Catch the south bound Ceres Liner yellow bus to Bato from the market in Moalboal.

The bus doesn’t go directly to the pier but you can take a tricycle for 15 to 25 pesos from the point where the bus lets you off on the side of the road.

img_0829.jpgYou have the choice of either the fast boat or the pump boat which leave from different piers.

The pumpboat ticket is aprox 39 pesos including port tax. The speed boat is around 49 pesos and gets across the straights quickly.

They both arrive at the island of Negros at the port of Sibulan. Packed multi-cabs or mini buses waiting there will take you to Dumaguete City for 8 pesos.

img_1150.jpgBe sure to get on the fullest one because they will not leave until they are overflowing.

There are several cheap hotes or pension houses near the market downtown. The Vintage Inn is a good value where single fan rooms are only 242 pesos and doubles are 352 pesos. Single air con rooms are 352 pesos and doubles are 517 pesos. AC, Cable, hot bath run between 500 pesos and 1232 pesos.

Excellent cheap meals can be had at the city market. San Miguel is 18 pesos and lite is 20 pesos.

Dumaguete is a remarkably reasonable place to visit.
