Sipalay Negros
This town on the west coast of Negros has the mellow vibe that is missing in Dumaguete.
Sipalay has some real potential to cash in on the tourist trade. Hopefully it won’t be overdone.

Fishermen
This is such a cool town. Many of the tourists go directly to Sugar Beach, which might be a good call but I kind of enjoyed hanging around town. I do have a motorbike with me so it gives you a bit of freedom.
The beach in town is a beauty but it is only a 15 minute boat ride to Sugar Beach where at least 5 resorts are located. You can also ride around to Nauhang and take a 2 peso boat ride across the river to the resort area. The boat from town is around 250 to 300 pesos each way.
I saw three pensions in Sipilay and chose to stay at the Langub Pension where I got a single fan room for 400 pesos. The owner also has the Langub Resort on Sugar Beach.

I was satisfied with this place. Everything worked and they have off street parking. There is a marked difference between the intensity of Dumaguete – Dauin and this side of the island. Sipilay is really worth a look if you have a few days on your hands.
Maana Pension House
This place is the cheapest place you can find unless you are sleeping on the beach!
100 pesos “per head” - dp probably would have stayed here except that it was fully booked by a Chinese guy and his crew.
Maana Pension was basic but seemed nice enough and there was off street parking.
Sipilay Suites is a bit more pricey starting at around 1500 pesos.

There is an impressive grocery store in on the ground level of the suites.
Plants do well here and many places have some very nice gardens out front
I was happy with the food at Pat’s eatery on the corner near the market. The squid (nokos) with rice and vegetables worked for me. The owner is also really helpful with advice about how to get around the area cheaply.
