Duli Beach Northern Palawan
Duli Beach might become a surfers paradise some day. This beach has no road going to it and it is not on any of the tourists planned day trips.
I think the reason is that there is a steady surf and the boats would not be able to unload the tourists with out loosing half of them.

I hope that there are some surfers that can enlighten me about if this is what they are looking for. I have always admired these guys – you can be in the middle of nowhere and some guy with dreads will show up with three surf boards on the top of a beat up old bus, ready to go.
Here is how to get to Duli.
First drive down to the seaside village of Bucana.
Nacpan Beach stretches out for a long way near town.
The road out past Bucana is rutted but not really a big deal. We were told that it was not possible to get to the beach by bike.

This was the easy part.
The road disappears completely and you set off through the brush.

Palawan

The vines and ratan made things difficult.
We were getting close enough to hear the pounding surf. I gave my co pilot the option of turning back but she said “go for it!”
It took a lot of energy to plod through the underbrush. A stick got wedged between my exhaust and the engine and stopped me cold.

Carabao
Lucky for me, my girl is a bit of a farm girl – she just grabbed the rope and pulled the carabao out of the way whilst I squeezed by.

This was turning into an interesting adventure. I had to ride a ways up this creek that was full of floating oranges or some other citrus. I got stuck and it was like being in a pool of orange juice.
We just kept following that creek and it led us to the coast.
There was not a soul around, not a footprint in the sand, nothing but palm trees.
There were no shells on the beach. There doesn’t appear to be any coral reefs, no rocky shale or anything – just the steady waves curling and rolling in to the sandy beach.
I never surfed so and have no idea if this would work, but this sure looks sweet. Off to the left the waves were pounding hard enough to keep a constant spray mist in the air.
Let me know what you think.

Hi Dave,
We did have a good time but it was a workout getting down there. From what the locals say – no motorbikes ever been down there, carabao only!
Beth had to grab one by the nose and pull it aside so I could get through.
She reckons it took about an hour and a half to get through the scrub and down the creek to the beach. She was convinced that we would find a different trail to return on but there was none to be found.
It was driving cross country and I did loose the bike in a deep hole full of water (she is still laughing at me).
The vines wound up on the axle and I finally got them all cleaned off today and changed the oil too. We take a cargo boat to Manila on Tuesday night.
Wish you were here mate!
Thanks for watching the fish – we found some nice shells for the aquarium.

ps “Hello” to Melody.
Hey DP! I’m vicariously enjoying all your adventures and wishing I was there with you guys! Duli Beach looks like another great gem you discovered there. Kudos to Beth for trekking through that scrub and dealing with the carabao. Good work, team. :)
Hi Meg,
Not a day goes by that Beth doesn’t bring your name up – we really miss you!
She did mention that was the last time she is going to go to that beach – period!

aloha! I stumbled upon your blog, wow I am truly inspired! I just got back from El Nido, I had made plans to go southern palawan, but with heavy rains I headed back to the city and random trekked north to El Nido. I can say… I HAVE to find my way back. I am planning for my trip in March, so maybe I can try to find this place…
Thank you for sharing!

I’m a surfer and I would be interested to see any more pictures you might have of this spot. Also, if you were able to find any more information about the frequency and size of the surf there.
Do you know if any surfers go to this island and where they surf?
thanks,
Hello Rich
I have only been to this beach one time. It was beautiful but really I don’t know any thing about surfing – just thought it might be a good possibility :) I have not seen any surfers on Palawan yet.
