Motorbike rental in Palawan
Renting a motorbike in Puerto Princesa gives you a chance to explore some of the countryside at your own pace.
The Caex rental shop is alongside the road leading to Puerto Princesa from the airport.
The little scooters rent for 600 pesos per day but the managers will negotiate for longer term rentals.
The 200 Honda trail bike cost 900 pesos per day.
There is local transport available to the many towns and villages in Palawan but having your own wheels gives you a bit more freedom to stop where you want etc.
The roads in Palawan tend to deteriorate the further you venture from town so if comfort is to be considered try to get a 200 if they have any available. 5 to 6 hours on the smaller scooters shake you apart.
I used one to go to a friends wedding on the south end of the island but most travelers will head north instead of south once they leave Puerto Princesa.
Fuel costs between 43 and 50 peso per liter. In some places it is sold in liter coke bottles but there are service stations in most of the towns.
It is always a good idea to lock the steering when you leave the bike. Theft does happen.
The rental shop wants you to leave your passport as security but I just gave them a photo copy.
This bike rental shop is just past the Moana Hotel and is usually open from 8am till 6 or 7 pm. Their bikes are rented out on a first come first serve basis.
Getting around Palawan is a lot cheaper using public transport but using a bike gives you more flexibility.

Hi there, I was in Puerto about a year ago, no sign of the caltex motor cycle rental shop.
Opposite the Moana Hotel on airport road and about 300 meters further on towards the town is a small workshop. The owner comes from Dumaguete, real nice helpful guy. I was able to rent a honda 200 for P450 a day, took it away for about 2 weeks, he gave me a further discount with out asking.
My favourite spot in the North was Port Barton, how ever had a drama to travel the road down from the highway due to mud. made it just covered in sludge and soaking. paid a local to ride it back to the highway after a few days. I took a 4×4 jeep.
The road on to El Nido was pot holed and difficult but with care was OK. Found El nedo to be to touristy for me and also had problem with crime there.
Puerto is a lovely clean pleasant place, following Cebu with Coffee Cafes springing up.
Thanks for the in fo DP
Thanks for the update Bruce!
Things are changing rapidly in Palawan. The Caex shop used to be in the same general area. Maybe it was the same owner?
Motorbike rental seems a bit expensive in Palawan to me.
I appreciate your info and support – have a great trip!

Hi
i want to rent motorbike 250cc from nov 14 to nov 21
i need to rent 4
is it possible to take from peurto and leave from el nido
let me know the best price you can provide
thanks
Hello dider,
I think 800 pesos a day is about what you are to expect in Puerto. I doubt they would be too keen on you leaving the bike in El Nido.
ATO would possible strike you a better deal.
cheers

I just travelled from El Nido to Puerto Princesa (by bus…).
I saw that the rental shop in El Nido (Pitstop) offers one way rental to Puerto. However very expensive! I think it was 3900 for 1 day!
So should be possible the other way around too.
Cheers,
Frank
Hi Frank,
I think that it is possible to rent one way starting in either Puerto Princessa or in El Nido.
For me the run to Sabang from Puerto is more interesting. Puerto to El Nido is more tedious.

i’ve been to carlo’s motorcycle rentals, carlo and alex are business partners and the mechanic told me that they partways, carlo gives me 500peso only per day. good condition motorcycle also with free map and information, don’t go there with tricycle drivers so that carlo can give you the best price because tricycle ask for commission. just walk through them all.

Hello, we arrive at Puerto Princesa on the 22nd May; We would like to rent some moto (12 motos). We want to rent them to go to El Nido. Can we give the moto back in El Nido? Could you indicate the name of the shop. Thanks a lot
Hi Mr. Pickle,
I am going to be in palawan in early october for a bout two weeks and plan to ride around the whole island and just find places to stay along the way without reservations.
Is this feasible or do you think it better for me to have an itinerary with reservations for each place along the way?
looking forward to your reply.
thanks,
Nick
Hello nick
It works for me. The exclusive resorts are usually hard to get in during the busy season but I like to stay in budget places. Try not to wait until dark to find our lodging.
Lodging is not available in some areas but you should be able to find something in any of the bigger towns. El Nido, Sabang, Port Barton, some limited lodging available in San Vicente, Tay Tay has a few, Puerto Princessa has some too but you have to do a bit of looking to get budget accommodation, Rio Tuba has limited rooms available, just ask around as you travel.
happy trip
