Puerto Princessa to Sabang – Palawan – by motorcycle
You can hear some real horror stories about how the road to Sabang used to be. Now it is an easy 2 hour ride from Puerto Princessa. A steady string of vans make the trip every day.

Scenic drive to Sabang.
You can rent a motorbike and make a day trip out of it if you want the flexibility of coming and going when you please. A small XRM can be rented for 500 to 600 pesos a day which seems a bit steep but that is the going rate. The bigger 200XR usually rents for 800 to 900 pesos per day.
Always use caution and don’t get too carried away looking at the scenery and watch out for the vans zipping along.
This one room school house was well kept with a spotless yard.
One of the vans took out this bird. I took a few pictures because it might be a bird that only exists on Palawan.
note – recently I have noticed this black bird with brown wings on several other islands.
Not trying to be morbid, ( taking pictures of road kills), but this was an unusual looking bird. There are quite a few birds and mammals indigenous to Palawan.
These wind and solar powered combo units line the street as you get closer to Sabang.
It seems like a good combination.
This jeepney makes the trip to Puerto and back every day. I have seen quite a few backpackers use it – 120 peso.
If your intention is to see the Sabang underground River – check in at this office on the pier and get a park permit for 200 pesos.
Ask the dispatcher at the end of the pier to hook you up with some other tourists so you only have to pay 100 pesos for the run over to the beach where the paddle boats that enter the cave are based.
Underground river
The cost of the paddle boat tour is included in the cost of the 200 peso park ticket.

we are a group of 7 German motor bikers. We would like to make a bike tour at Palawan for some days. We saw some bike rentals placed there. Is there also a guide available who could travel with us showing us most interesting places ?

Hello Thomas
Sounds like a great trip! I think that you will be ok without a guide but you could probably hire one if you chose to. I am envious:)
Have fun and drive safe!

Hi DP! We’ll be visiting Puerto Princesa (PPS) in August this year and we would like to stay in Sabang. We’ll be arriving in PPS at around 5PM. I was already informed that the public means of transportation already left by the time that we landed in PPS. We were advised to rent a van instead, but I was thinking that it will be impractical for a three backpacker to hire a van.
Do you have any idea how much a van will cost from PPS-Sabang one-way?
Which is much better/cheaper, rent a van or stay overnight in the City of Puerto Princesa?
I’ll highly appreciate your reply. Thank you in advance. =]
Hello katkat,
I suggest staying at the Dallas Inn in Puerto Princessa. If here are rooms available !

Amelia Pensionne is near the airport

If you leave Puerto Princessa at 5pm you will likely arrive in Sabang after night fall making it harder to locate a room. There are not many places to eat at night in Sabang either. Better to leave in the morning and get a fresh start. I am not sure the cost of a van – never went that way but there is a jeepney that makes that run also (120 peso each way)
Have fun !

Maraming Salamat DP! I’ve checked Dallas and it looks pretty cool. Yeah. I was thinking to just stay in Puerto Princesa and then maybe just arranged a tour for Underground the following Day. It seems that our plan of staying in Sabang will not work ’cause our ETD in PPS is too late. Thank you for the quick reply. More power on your website! =]
Hello katkat :)
For sure – getting to Sabang after dark would not be that pleasant – stumbling around – trying to find a room in the dark:)
Both Roberts and Marys on the far end of the beach are more budget places to stay
but there are some resorts there in Sabang Beach that are very expensive (but very nice)
enjoy !
