Renting a motorcycle in Puerto Princessa 2010
I looked at 5 motorbike rental shops on Rizal Street near the airport yesterday – Nov 2010. The small Honda Waves and 125XRM’s rents for 500 – 600 pesos per day and the bigger Honda 200XR trail bike goes for 800 to 1000 pesos per day depending on the shop and your bargaining skills.

Renting a motorbike gives you a lot of freedom to set your own pace. Self driving is a great option for local trips to the crocodile farm, Sabang Underground River, butterfly farm, Ugong Rock and just getting around town.
ATO Motorcycle Rentals – This is a good one! smart02904913069 globe09274503064
The ATO shop has moved to the other side of the street next to the Episcopal Church. This is possibly the most efficient operation in Puerto.

This shop gets better every year! They are also flexible with the rates – the smaller bikes go for 500 pesos and the 200XR’s go for 800 pesos per day.

Bryan Rentals is the new kid on the block as far as rentals go. He is a cheerful guy with a positive attitude and will not fail.
Bryan’s rentals and Jorika Sari Sari Store – This shop is directly across from the immigration office. He is a small operator and I wish him success!

Hi! So which one did you choose?
Hi chummy,
Sometimes I bring my bike to Palawan with Milagrosa J Shipping from Iloilo but the last two days I just rented a bike from ATO. Some friends and I went up to Sabang and had a look at Ugong Rock and the day before we went south to the crocodile farm and had a look at the prison further south.
I really enjoy riding around Palawan on a bike!

I’m so jealous! I’m Filipino and yet I haven’t been to Palawan! I’ve only been to Boracay, Zamboanga; and places up north like Batangas, Tagaytay; and further up to Subic, and Bolinao in Pangasinan.
I like traveling but family and work are getting in the way! LOL! I’ve been pestering my husband to take a break once in a while but he’s not that keen on traveling long distances.
How much do you think should I save so I can visit Palawan someday?
Cheers!

dp,
My 21 yo son and i are arriving at Puerto Princesa on the 4 september at lunchtime and are hiring 2 * 200 XR’s off ATO. We return on the 7th Sept for a 1300 flight back to Manila.
Where do you suggest we ride over that time to see the island and your recommendations as to where we should stay would be appreciated. We do not mind taking day rides and staying in the same place or alternatively staying wherever we end up at the end of the day.
Thanks for your help… Tony..
Hello Tony,
Try a trip to Sabang and spend the nite there? Go down to the crocodile farm/wildlife rescue south of Puerto Princessa?
A ride up to El Nido would be rushed with the time frame that you are on.
enjoy

Hello,
we ll arrive at Puerto Princesa on the 1st of December;
We would like to rent a moto in puerto princess to go to El Nido.
Can we give the moto back in El Nido the day after?
if it’s possible, would you give us the name of both shops. Thanks a lot
kind regards
agathe
You will have to check with several motorcycle rental shops and work out the best deal. You can then make the arrangements about returning the bike with the manager/owner.
It is a fairly long run up to El Nido from Puerto Princessa and the road is gravel in many places so don’t be in too big of a hurry : )
I have had good luck with ATO rentals

hi,
how long is the ride from puerto princessa to el nido?
i wanna rent also some bikes in puerto princesa go up there and maybe down to catch another fligth!
thx mike
Hello Mike,
It usually takes me a full day either way. Sometimes I stay in Tay Tay and spend the nite there.
Puerto Princesa to El Nido would probably take about 6 hours depending on how fast you drive. There are some long stretches of loose gravel so no need to rush it. The road is in fairly good condition.
It would be very difficult to go round trip from Puerto Princesa to El Nido and back to Puerto on the same day.
On the other hand it is an easy run to go from Puerto Princesa to Sabang and back in a day – just over an hour each way – this is a very nice drive on a road in very good condition. (maybe only 1 kilometer of gravel)

hey dp,
thx for your quick answer, we wanna stay one week on palawan. so maybe you know better 1-3 day tours with the motorcycles. more nice than puerto princesa-el nido?
thx mike from germany
Hello Mike
El Nido really is a special place. You can easily take a mini van from Puerto Princesa if you do not feel like riding a motorcycle. It is a long dusty road.
If you want to stay close to Puerto Princesa – Sabang beach and the underground river / cave are well worth a visit. Many mini vans go there daily from Puerto but if you rent a motorbike from ATO or one of the other rental shops you should be able to make it in less than an hour and a half. I like having the beach all to myself at nite there. Electricity goes out around 11pm at the budget places but I enjoy it there
Ugong Rock is worth a look on the way as well – there is a zip line from a rock pinnacle over the rice fields to a hill on the other side. Pretty cool – I never rode it yet but stopped in a few times to check the progress when it was being installed. I hope to get back there early next year.
The crocodile farm near Puerto Princesa on the south highway is interesting.
Port Barton is a nice little hide a way – north of Sabang.
I think you will have a great time.
Just visiting El Nido would likely be a good option too. Boats ferry visitors to the nearby islands and it is very beautiful.
enjoy
