Ugong Rock Zip Line
The cable is set for the zip line from the top of Ugong Rock across the rice fields to a landing deck on the far side.
YIPPIE! We checked the zip line out yesterday Nov 23, 2010 but it was not quite ready to go yet.

The Tagabenit community should benefit greatly from this tourist attraction.
The Tagabenit Guide Association has 14 local guides trained to take tour groups through the passageways to the top of this limestone tower. Guide – Romel Ortiga
I suspect that there will need to be specially trained assistants with the zip line itself.

“dutchpickle” suggestions would be :
1) Keep the price low – maybe around 200 pesos and go for volume. I think many many people would want to stop on their way to the Sabang underground river for a flight over the rice fields.

2) Prioritize safety above all – Safety First – There must be a fool proof procedure where no harm will come to any participants. This zip line is going to go huge and will benefit the local community greatly!

I am not an engineer but there must be changes made to the attachment point at the top of the Ugong Rock for the long term. Presently the cable is secured to a tree – an organic attachment point that is not going to work for the long term. Think long term and build a large concrete reinforced anchor. (Possibly this is just a temporary and there are plans to beef up the anchor for the zip line cable.)

Yesterday we took the tour through the rock itself . The cost was 100 pesos and it is moderately interesting but the draw is going to be this zip line. I will be a repeat customer for sure!
Ugong Rock tour
Tagabenit guide “Dhong” – these tour guides will have their hands full once the tourists start coming for the zip line flight over the rice fields!
The cave tour is interesting too.
These formations have a chime like ring if you give them a tap. The guides say the the word “ugong” means sound.
Ugong Rock is located about 20 minutes from Sabang. It’s well worth a look!
“dutchpickle” will try to keep updates on the zip line with information here
comments from readers are welcome – especially fresh info – thanks in advance

Hello Ivan
Sounds like a good research project! My feeling is that this zip line will benefit the local Tagabenit community tremendously. Tourism in Palawan in general is growing at a tremendous rate – especially around Sabang.
Try getting a hold of a representative of the Tagabenit Guide association – better yet you should pay the zip line a visit, once it becomes operational, and interview the locals to get their take on the project!

Hi,
Any news on whether the zip line is operational now or not?
I’m visiting at the end of january and would love a go!
Cheers,
Felix
Ugong Rock Zip Line opened to the public 22 January 2011. I got to try it the next day.
Traveling through the zip line, one can speed up or slow down depending on how the legs are carried. With the legs held up, speed is faster; with the legs held down, speed is slower. Speed is also dependent on ones weight. The heavier one’s weight is, the faster the travel…
Also, keep the two cables far apart to keep one’s body from turning sideways/around.

The zipline is now operational. The community owns and manage the project. Adjustments were done for the guests to enjoy the ride. We had put an cable spacer so there is no need to keep apart two cables. The spacer also prevents turning and sideways position of the riders. For heavy riders( 80 kl to 130), there is a parachute to slow down speed and impacts on the end brakes.
Come and enjoy the most challenging zipline. You will enjoy it and the local communities will benefit.
dp,
The pictures shown here especially the cable attached to the trees, i want to clarify that the set up on the picture is when the cable is temporarily attached to the said tree. Now, it is permanently attached to a concrete block and redirecting posts through turn buckles and cable clips.
Youve taken the picture when the consstruction is on going.
Thanks.

Hello Marlon Tamsi -
Thank you for the Ugong Rock Zip Line update!
I suspected that the tie off was just a temporary :) Sounds like the Ugong Rock zip line is now ready to go!
I can not wait to get back to Ugong and give it a flight myself. This zip line project should benefit the local community greatly as it gets more and more popular! It was a great idea:)
