Motorbikes in Samar and Leyte often have roofs to protect from sun and rain. 4 passengers is considered to be a full load. This pig has a chauffer. Another view from the Ceres bus. It is difficult to take pics from the window because these buses don't dally, they pass everyone with equal gusto. Typhoon Frank blew down a lot of banana trees. There had already been heavy rains for 3 days prior to the storm so the ground was soft.
Southern Samar and northern Leyte were in the direct path of Frank.
Tacloban really got the rain and winds as the storm made landfall. There was heavy fighting in this area during WW2. General Suzuki was in command of the Japanese defenders in these Buga Buga hills.
The fighting was intense and many American and Japanese soldiers lost their lives in these hills. Those must have been miserable times for everyone. Buga Buga hills that way...
I didn't get there this trip but would like to have a look some day when I have my own wheels.
One of my uncles spent time in Leyte in WW2. Over the bridge in Tabanuk nearby Cebu City. Note the tricycle delivering baked goods.
This picture is actually from the window of Sam's restaurant in Car Car, a city near Cebu. He has an excellent chili pie!
Rolling bags of coconuts through the traffic.
