 Philippines - Rivers of garbage
It is amazing how much junk gets dumped in the rivers. No one seems to
give it a second thought. Everything gets thrown in the river or the
ocean.
It is not too bad out in the provinces because almost all trash there is organic and very little gets wasted.
In the cities everything is put in a plastic bag or styrofoam
containers. This trash does not break down very quickly and just piles
up. Sometimes it is raked into big piles in the street and set ablaze.
It is just another form of pollution but there is no easy answer because there are already massive refuse dumps around Manila that have been known to slide and bury people alive.
