Sagada market
Saturday is the market day in Sagada. People come down from the hills with all kinds of vegetables and sell them in the center of town.
The local oranges don't look good but taste great for 40 to 60 pesos a kilo. There are two varieties. One is sweet and easy to peel and the other is is hard to peel and is more sour. Buy just one and taste it first too see if you like it. The sour ones take a bit of getting used to but are great once you get accustomed to the tartness.
Apples cost 10 pesos ea.
This is a good time to stock up on food that you can eat on the road.
You can buy the snow peas and eat them raw after a quick wash. They do use pesticides in the Sadgada area so it is a good idea to give everything a good rinse before you eat it. They are 20 pesos for a quarter kilo.
The cabbage in particular attract a lot of butterflies that produce larve that turn into caterpillars that nibble holes into everything. Without pesticide there would hardly be anything to bring to market. Even as it is the cabbage heads are quite small after they peel off all the outer leaves that have been damaged.
