Bangon is 3 kilometers from the main road in Barangay Tinaplacon near
Calbayog following a trail that winds through coconut palm farms. We left our bags at a shop alongside the road. Joni of Trexplore in Catbalogan took the lead and we were off.
Local farmers use motorbikes to haul the copra to the road.
These people put a lot of work into preparing the copra. They dry the meat and separate it from the shell. The shell is later made into charcoal and the dried meat of the coconut, or "copra" is sold to brokers that resell it to manufacturers.
The oil is separated from the meat and is used in food processing and in cosmetics and hair products. More coconuts drying in the sun. The meat has to contain less than 6 percent mater to be marketable.
Cruising up the path. These guys put a lot of work into their crop! The great thing is that they will sell you young coconuts for 5 pesos apiece. The milk, or "buko juice" really quenches your thirst on a hot day. Bangon Falls! You will pass Larik Falls on the trail at about 2 km and if you continue onwards you will reach Tarangban about 1 km further up the trail.
