Building a concrete road by hand in Samar.
These workmen are building a concrete road in Catbalogan by hand. I was getting overheated just taking their picture.
They have two cement mixers and a continuous line of workmen bringing bags of water, cement, gravel and sand.
No re-bar is used for reinforcement and the concrete is poured fairly wet. This means that the concrete is not going to be very strong or durable .
The men should have this entire stretch finished by nightfall. They will use the sand and gravel piled alongside as work their way down the street.
It’s 10am now and they are making good progress.
These guys are really hustling. They seem to have a rotating shift with half of them resting in the shade for a bit, then relieving their co-workers periodically.
Everyone knows their job and just sets about doing it. This crew has great teamwork and has a big job ahead of them.
This is the road just outside the internet cafe that I am using.
Good job! Well done.
