These interlocking concrete structures are piled up on beach on the south coast of Samar, Philippines to prevent the highway from washing away during the typhoons that frequent this coast.

The highway following the coast has no protection in this area and the road would easily get washed into the sea during stormy weather.

philippines-atb-025.jpgHere we are stopping for gas in the town of Basey, Samar. That tricycle has a standard load believe it or not.

The driver can haul 15 people or more on a motorcycle tricycle. It’s hard to believe but that Honda 155 TMX is a rugged little bike.

I have one too but never am able to go faster than 70 kph. At that speed the vibration starts shaking the bike apart. The motorbike trike will usually stay under 30 kph when it’s loaded, maybe 50 kph empty.
