Japzon Dental Clinic
Dental work in the Philippines is a real value. I got my teeth cleaned today at the Japzon Dental Clinic in Catbalogan across from the Petron Station for 300 pesos. (aprox 6.50 USD)
After a quick inspection the good dentist Dr. Ruth Japzon found a cavity that needed attention and she went to work on that one straight away for 450 peso. (aprox 10 USD)
She gave me estimates on a couple of teeth that needed restoration due to my abusive lifestyle. Crowns and major repairs are done quite reasonably but cost more than normal fillings.
I had some work done on a tooth in Cebu a few years ago too that required extensive drilling and the dentist worked on it for 2 hours 15 minutes solid before she was happy with it.
In that clinic they would do a temporary filling and have you come back in 2 weeks or so so they could complete the job. That had something to do with getting dentene to grow in the repair before putting in the permanent fill.
The final bill in that case was 900 peso and the dentist apologized for the high cost but she had to cancel 2 appointments just to have the time to complete the job.
They really try to do a good job instead of like in the west where you are often shuttled out the door as quickly as possible even if it is not quite right.
Another nice thing about the Filipino dental clinics is that they try to fit you in straight away so you don’t have to wait for weeks with a toothache while they try to find a place for you in the schedule.

Jan 22 – 2009 Update
Getting dental work done in the Philippines – good quality and good value.
Dental Clinic in the Philippines
I have 4 teeth that are busted up and needed crowns so I made a trip back to my friendly neighborhood dentist, Dr. Ruth.
I have been putting this off for a number of years but decided to quit procrastinating and get the work done.
Philippine dentist
Dental work in the Philippines is a real value.
This sparkling clinic has modern equipment and I have been very happy with the service and the costs.
It’s also the first time I took a picture of myself sitting in a dentists chair.
I will post as the work gets done. Today I had a ultra-violet cured filling put in at a cost of 350 pesos. Three temporary fillings were put in for 150 pesos each. They will be removed at a later date when the impressions are made for the crowns.
One tooth that had been previously worked on was ready for the impression to be made today. They are then sent to Manila where the crowns are made.
The installation is scheduled to be the 26th of January, provided the crown has arrived from Manila.
The cost per crown was quoted at 3,000 pesos per tooth.
I will update as the work gets done.
So far, so good!

Hi Wayne,
I have had quite a bit of work done at this clinic and been satisfied.
The costs are probably around ten percent of what you would pay in a western country.
She has pretty good equipment and does all the work for one of the private schools too.
Her clinic is across the street from the gas station by Jolibees.
cheers

Hello Reza,
Something like that will likely require a trip to the dental office and an examination to be able to get an accurate estimate.

Yes,
Dental work here sure is of great value and quality. I’ve been to four different dentists here in the Phils depending where I live. I am now living in Baguio and having 19 porcelain/metal put in. The cost is 2900 pesos per crown. Inclusive of any anesthesia, temporary crowns etc etc….
My dentist does an amazing job. Stayed in her clinic until ten p.m. last night.
The quality is just as good as in the west.
If you live in Baguio, let me know and I’ll refer you to her.
