Trike Monkey

This cute monkey rides along with the waterman on his route. Many people in Samar don’t have water piped to their homes and depend on someone with a tricycle to bring it from the pump or well.

Samar still has a lot of wilderness and jungle where wildlife can exist.

Other animals I have seen lately on the roads in Samar -  a fat 3 meter long dead python alongside the road one night last week and a monitor lizard about 5 feet long crossing the road yesterday. That was one big mean lizard so I waited until he was well off the road before continuing onward.

It’s difficult to get close to wildlife because animals that are too brave either land up in the cook pot or as pets.

Occasionally monkeys become pets but they are not really designed for that lifestyle. They get frustrated with being in captivity and often become biters as they get older.

I had to buy a baby monkey captured by a local in one of the barangays along Ulot River because that baby monkey would not survive being fed only with banana. I couldn’t release that baby monkey either to the wild for it will not survive without it’s mother. I learned that it’s mother was killed and eaten illegal loggers in the Ulot Watershed.
