Canlaon – Kanlaon Mountain and Rice Fields

Mt Canlaon and rice fieldsCanlaon Mountain and peaceful rice terraces.  Mt Kanlaon Volcano

I took a day trip from San Carlos over to Canlaon because the weather was beautiful and the mountain was so beautiful – perfect for a few pictures!

The turn off to Canlaon is about 20 kilometers south of town and you can follow the road over the mountains and land up in Bacolod if you choose.

This is a beautiful area and it is a rather easy road trip if you have a bit of time on your hands. I have an interest in climbing Mt Canlaon – also spelled Mt. Kanlaon – one of these days when I feel motivated but the timing or weather was not quite right yet.

Mount CanlaonMt Kanlaon Volcano in Kanlaon National Park on Negros Island – Kanlaon is an active volcano – I see it spelled Canlaon and Kanlaon not sure which is technically correct but both seem to be ok

Negros is a beautiful island and often gets overlooked by those on the tourist trail.

note: that is not Canlaon – Kanlaon mountain in the background in the above  photo – just a random hill : )

    Hi there DP.
You write: “Negros is a beautiful island and often gets overlooked by those on the tourist trail.”
    I agree… It is truely a beautiful Island…. I just love it !

Kanlaon is Tagalog and Canlaon is the English spelling:-)

I have found some very interesting old US-Army maps from 1954
Here is the list of maps:

(follow the link to the indexpage for an overview)

This is the link to the map where you find Kanlaon:

If you have a GPS, you could post the co-ordinates on your pictures. that would be a great help to find the places you have visited

Have a great and Happy New Year.
