 Sept 11 memorial – Healing Field

3200 US flags were set up in 93 rows on the ski slopes of Cannonsburg Michigan this past September 11 weekend.

The flags represented those that perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on Sept 11, 2001, the 4 planes that crashed and those that were lost in the Pentagon.

There were 2,997 flags with attached placards with the name of the person and a bit of a story about their life and how they lived and died. 200 other flags were on the perimeter representing those that were not found.

It is very moving when you see this many flags all representing a real person that died on Sept 11 . People from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds and ages were lost on that day.

A red ribbon was on the flags representing the firemen. Blue was for police.

Artist and traveler remembered

Some people were deeply touched by the story on a certain flag. They could then buy that flag for 75 dollars with the proceeds going to the West Michigan First Responders.

A yellow ribbon was than attached and the flags were to be distributed on Tuesday the13th of September.

There was an isle in the middle that separated the field into two long section – each representing one of the towers that fell on Sept 11. Most of the flags in the foreground stood for those in the Twin Towers with the flags further up the hill representing those that died in either of the 4 planes that went down. Those that perished in the pentagon were further up the hill.

Some very special people were lost on that day.

Hours or even days could be taken just walking the rows and reading the cards.

Messages and notes were left. Some very moving and emotional.

Each flag stood for someone that will be missed by many. It was an honor to walk through this memorial .

So many beautiful people were lost. We must never forget them.
