Butanding Patay - It was a bummer that this 5 meter whale shark was found dead, bobbing up and down in the Manila bay last week.
The picture in the paper shows the whale shark wrapped up in a net but it had been used to tow the fish ashore, and the cause of death was [...]

Sogod Bay Southern Leyte

I enjoyed my stay at this simple lodging house near the shore of Sogod Bay more than I would have at a 5 star resort. This lodge is owned by the same people that own/operate Chad’s Lodging House. The old Boy is a bit of a [...]

Whale sharks of Sogod Bay - Southern Leyte
I took a trip to Pintuyan in southern Leyte two weeks ago to try to see a whale shark or two. We gave it a good shot but didn’t see any tiki-tiki (whalesharks) but this is what I learned about Sogod Bay.
The whale sharks seem to cruise along [...]

Swimming with the whale sharks in Donsol is an amazing experience. The best months are Feb and March, when they mill about in Donsol bay slurping up plankton and resting up before heading out on their yearly migration.
When the typhoon season starts [...]

Vitton Beach Resort
Donsol Philippines
The Vitton Beach Resort is on the beach, right next door to the whaleshark tourist headquarters on Donsol Bay.
Some tour operators from Legaspi use Vitton as a base for their whale watching day trips. There is plenty of parking and you just have to walk over to the tour center where all [...]

Scuba diving in southern Leyte
Sogod Bay and Limasawa Island are top scuba diving locations in southern Leyte. There are 3 main dive shops but I believe that 6 operators are in the area.
Dive shop owners can log into the forum and put their information and links on the “dive shops” section.
A twist to the [...]

Donsol whale shark update
We took a trip to Donsol to see if there were any late season whale sharks still in the bay.
My friends and I spent 8 days there and had some great sightings even though the weather was not cooperating because it is the beginning of the typhoon season.
